Ghana Boreholes: What the Water Resources Commission Says About Licensed Drillers
Informational only. Based on a Daily Graphic report of 31 July 2021.
- The Water Resources Commission (WRC) warned individuals and drilling companies against building boreholes, wells and fish ponds without the required licence.
- The report names the Drilling Licence and Groundwater Development Regulations, L.I. 1827 (2006) as the governing rules. Drilling without a licence is described as an offence with possible fines or imprisonment.
- The WRC advises using only qualified drillers with the knowledge, skills and machines, not masons or plumbers.
- Concerns about a borehole not built by qualified people can be reported to the commission.
Not verified: current rules and penalties (the report is from 2021 and we did not read the regulations). Ask the WRC directly.
