Submersible vs Jet Well Pumps: What One Guide Says
Submersible vs Jet Well Pumps: What One Guide Says
Based on a single Angi guide. Treat figures as that guide's, and note it is inconsistent in places.
Jet pumps
- Mounted above the well, drawing water through two pipes.
- Shallow models are generally not recommended for wells deeper than 25 feet. The guide says deep jet pumps work to 120 feet, but its FAQ says 90 feet.
- Efficiency drops as the water level gets deeper; the guide lists them as noisier with less consistent pressure.
- Sitting on the surface, they are easier to repair or replace.
Submersible pumps
- Sit inside the well, must stay underwater, and use stacked impellers.
- Described as efficient under 300 feet, with some models reaching over 1,000 feet. Not verified: the claim that efficiency does not fall with depth; the guide only says they work efficiently at any depth under 300 feet.
- Quieter and self-priming, with generally minimal maintenance, but costlier to inspect and repair.
